Spanish company Acciona has won the public tender for the operation and maintenance of sanitation subsystems in the eastern Algarve (between Vilamoura and Vila Real de Santo António) over the next seven years. The contract cost the company around 42 million euros.
An internal source from Acciona explained to press today that "Águas do Algarve has awarded Acciona the services for the operation, conservation, and maintenance of water treatment systems in the eastern part of the Algarve, with a budget of around 42 million euros".
Acciona will be responsible for 230 kilometers of pipelines, 72 pumping stations and 44 wastewater treatment plants, serving almost 463,000 Algarveans over a seven-year period, according to the same source.
Águas do Algarve had already announced on February 3 that it had made its decision in awarding the two service supply contracts that represent a total investment of 100.2 million euros, related to the operation and maintenance of the Multimunicipal Sanitation System in the Algarve until 2027.
Without mentioning the names of the winners, Águas do Algarve explained that the contracts cover the operation and maintenance of various sanitation subsystems in the east, covering the Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) of Almargem (Tavira) and Faro-Noroeste, aswell as the Lagos and Albufeira treatment plants to the west.
“Águas do Algarve is pleased to award these important services, for a total value of 100.2 million euros, of high value not only for the company, but for the region and the environment as a whole”, reads the statement published at the time.
The two companies that will provide services to Águas do Algarve must ensure “all the works necessary for the proper functioning, and conservation of the infrastructures inserted in the Multimunicipal Sanitation System of the Algarve”, stressed the company. We shall see if the companies stick to their promises.
