The collection could realise £5m and anticipation is high that the event could be the biggest sports auction.

Crime: Correia verdict due June 29th - former ACRAL president accused of embezzlement

correia2The prosecutor in the case against the former mayor of Tavira be convicted of five crimes allegedly committed when he was in office. The judges will pronounce their verdict on June 29th.

In the second session at Faro court of trial involving the former mayor, lawyer Eduardo Cunha considered that it had been proved that Correia had acted illegally by granting licenses in areas of the National Ecological Reserve (REN).

Public shut out of Ludo Riverside Park near Faro airport

After the problems of recent years, including having to play at the Algarve Stadium three years ago because of the substandard pitch, this will ensure a top class surface which should help to enhance the quality of football.

Pharol - formerly PT - loses €65.9 million in three months

ptPharol, the company formerly known as Portugal Telecom,* managed to lose €65.9 million in the first quarter of the year, 53% more than in the same period last year, according to its accounts that can be found on the CMVM Stock Market Regulator’s website.

The losses were blamed on appalling results from Brazil’s Oi in which Pharol owned 22% of the shares during the accounting period.

Communists visit Ria Formosa to find that nothing has changed

Party organisers were accompanied by MEP João Pimenta Lopes and Algarve MP, Paulo Sá to collect new information on the problems experienced by people living and working in the Ria Formosa area. 

VW swallows 20% profit drop but still set for world leader crown

vwlogosThe car maker Volkswagen has seen its profits plummet by 20% in the wake of its diesel emissions scandal.

It recorded a pre-tax profit of €3.2 billion in the three months to March but this was down from nearly €4 billion the previous year.
