Members of Almancil International Rotary Club have been proud to be associated with and to support the Associação Social e Cultural de Almancil (ASCA) and were delighted to be invited to attend the celebration marking 25 years since the association was founded and the placement of the first stone of the new ASCA nursery and pre-school.
The ceremony, hosted by the President of ASCA Hermes Alberto, was attended by the Mayor of Loulè Sr Vitor Aleixo, together with Joaquim Pinto, President of the Freguesia de Almancil and many other local officials, dignitaries, the architect of the project and a representative from Ikea which made a substantial donation. The crèche is estimated to cost in the region of 1.5m euros and, all being well it is hoped it will be finished by the end of 2018.
The surprise guest of the evening was the President of the Republic of Portugal, Sr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa who took time out from his holiday in the Algarve to attend the ceremony. Sr de Sousa spoke briefly with AIRC President Claire Busbridge and told her how nice it was “to meet yet another President”. He was also most impressed with the cooperation between AIRC and ASCA.
