The Nandi Charity Shop is a registered charity supporting the needs of stray and abandoned animals in the western Algarve. It operates two shops in Lagos, selling second-hand clothes, handbags, books, household items, toys and furniture.
All Nandi charity shops proceeds support the costs of sterilisation and veterinary care for stray and abandoned dogs and cats. In addition, Nandi provides for emergency treatment cats and dogs as well as vaccinations.
Nandi charity volunteers also feed a number of colonies of cats. It supports other animal charities, including, over the years, the Goldra animal sanctuary in Loulé, the Bamboo Sanctuary and LAPS. Sheds for cats and kittens, as well as kennels, were built at Goldra with Nandi funds; Bamboo benefited from the provision of fencing and Portakabins.
Nandi’s Charity success for over ten years is due to the dedication of over 40 volunteers, who work at the shops and provide pick-up and delivery of goods, particularly large furniture items. Nandi also sponsors Quiz Nights, a very popular Christmas Fair and other special fund-raising events throughout the year.
Nandi welcomes anyone interested in volunteering. For details on volunteering, directions to the shops or other information, please contact John Worman (912 445 652) or visit us on Facebook.
Animal help is available at our shop on Tues/Thur/Sat mornings.
