March 17th is the feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. On Saturday 16th the St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve held a dinner dance at the Pestana Viking hotel in Armaçao de Pera to celebrate the occasion.
The event was widely acclaimed as a great success with 82 members and guests attending the party. This number well exceeded the last few years and would indicate a current resurgence of interest in the society and its activities, no doubt due to the sterling efforts of the Committee of Neil Rodgers, Teresa Ferreira and Mary Vaughan.
On the night, the Chairman of the society Damien Clarke gratefully acknowledged their hard work in the planning and execution of the event. He also thanked Juliet Fortune and her sister Stella of Porches Pottery for their help in decorating the room (which greatly added to the atmosphere of the festivities) as well as the management and staff of the Viking hotel for providing a marvellous meal.
The music was supplied by Vitor Talhadas and his excellent performance was another highlight of the night which enticed some guests onto the dance floor even before they had finished the meal.
The St. Patrick’s Society organises various social events throughout the year. They are always on the lookout for new members ( any nationality ! ) and anyone interested in joining can contact membership secretary Teresa Ferreira at membership.st.patricks.algarve@gmail.com.
