The annual visit of the District Governor is always a special time for a Rotary club. This year, Rotary Porches reached a much-anticipated goal as well; the club was presented with official authorization for its change to become an E-club and to change the club’s name to Rotary E-club Porches International.
District 1960 Governor António Mendes presented President Goran Linde with the charter to make the transition complete at a recent lunch at Primavera Restaurant in Carvoeiro.
With many members and visiting Rotarians and guests present, it was a convivial occasion that also saw the installation of a new member, Guilherme Cruz. A final presentation was that of a Paul Harris Fellowship award for club secretary, Fritz Drabert, in appreciation of his hard work in the process of becoming an E-club.
Rotary e-clubs are Rotary clubs that meet electronically and follow the same policies as all Rotary clubs. The key difference is that an e-club conducts its weekly meeting on the club’s website.
As all Rotary clubs do, Rotary e-clubs meet weekly, perform service projects in local and international communities, support The Rotary Foundation, and enjoy fellowship among members. And the keys to their effectiveness are also the same: service-minded members, opportunities for fellowship, and strong leadership.
For business, professional, and community leaders who are unable to attend a weekly meeting in person (due to physical disabilities, location constraints, or busy schedules), the E-club option offers the opportunity to meet, conduct service projects, and participate in Rotary fellowship.
