Bikers on the Spanish Border

A ride along the banks of the Guadiana River On Saturday the 14th of March the Algarve Senior Bikers made the most of the warm sunshine, and after meeting at São Brás de Alportel headed east to Castro Marim. Here, as it was Market Day and with roads closed, it was a case of park and walk for a coffee break near the castle. Time for a chat and to get to know the new members attending for the first time.

Lunch at the Restaurant O Camane in the old town of AlcoutimThen, leaving the main roads behind, to continue towards Alcoutim following the interesting and scenic route planned on this occasion by Mike Sanders. On over the hills and down into the valley to ride along the banks of the Guadiana River all the way to old town of Alcoutim. The river being the border between Portugal and Spain.

Time to park the bikes and take a break for the excellent lunch at the Restaurant O Camane in the old town of Alcoutim, which faces across the river to Spain.

After lunch, returning west, the route followed the old roman road to Martim Longo and then via Cachopo to Baranco Velho where the group divided and riders made there own way home.

There were 32 members enjoying the ride to Alcoutim on Saturday.  Although there are many more members than this in the group, this was a good turnout for this longer than usual ride.
