A celebration at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 31st October will be the culmination of the Tercentenary year of the United Grand Lodge of England.
Presided over by the Grand Master, HRH the Duke of Kent, the event will be attended by 3900 freemasons from all over the world including the Grand Inspector of the Portugal Group of Lodges, Robert Scott Levitt (pictured left).
Rotary Club Estoi Palace International held its annual Quiz Night on Friday, 27th October at A Floresta Restaurant, in Almancil. The quiz was preceded by an excellent meal prepared and served by the hardworking A Floresta team.
9 teams took part in a fun and competitive evening, with just half a point separating the winners from the second and third teams. The question master was Rotarian Shirley Dunne who posed a series of challenging questions designed to test the general knowledge of participants.
It has been a busy month of September for ASB members starting with a Charity Ride ending with lunch at Gaivoto Home for teenagers in Albufeira which raised around 400 euros for the kids in the home.
The well attended event was arranged and the ride led by ASB Organiser David Shirley. The ride was through the hills around the pretty village of Alte where the the group stopped for refreshments by the waterside at the Fontes before going on to the home for a BBQ lunch.
Members of Almancil International Rotary Club have been proud to be associated with and to support the Associação Social e Cultural de Almancil (ASCA) and were delighted to be invited to attend the celebration marking 25 years since the association was founded and the placement of the first stone of the new ASCA nursery and pre-school.
One of the aims of the Rotary Foundation is to promote better understanding of different cultures in order to encourage tolerance and empathy for others. Youth camps broaden international understanding by learning about a regions’s people, food, languages, customs and history. They also help to build enduring friendships and establish a foundation for peace and service.
The Rotary Club of Estoi Palace International held its 5th Annual Charity Golf day at Monte Rei Golf and Country Club on Thursday 31st August. From a shotgun start 65 people played an individual 18 hole Stableford competition. Monte Rei provided its usual excellent service to all the participants including breakfast, practice facilities, buggies and drinks on the course. During their round the players enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a ‘Beat the Pro’ and ‘Nearest the Pin’ competitions.
Porsche Faro was welcomed as a new sponsor of the event.
On September 2nd the St Patrick’s Society held a very enjoyable and sociable evening to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of a new season of events. Around 50 members and their guests enjoyed a perfect evening in a spectacular setting overlooking the Arade river, with the Monchique Mountains in the background.
Due to the extremely warm weather the ASB did not participate in the usual longer monthly rides, instead on the 8th of August Brian '5th Gear' Evans organised a short ride from Sao Bras de Alportel to the pretty village of Querenca for a longer than usual coffee break followed by a short ride through the forests in the Salir area, before returning near to Querenca for lunch at a Restaurant Sol e Serra.
