The Hilton Vilamoura joined, once again, the Global Week of Service, the largest volunteer initiative of Hilton Worldwide. This year several activities aimed to strengthen the links between the hotel and the local community of the Algarve were developed.
On October 20th, students from Colégio de Vilamoura attended a workshop on home and garden vermicomposting, sponsored by Futuramb, a company that aims to reduce the pollution and contamination caused by improper management of solid organic waste.
In this workshop, students had the opportunity to learn how to minimize the environmental impact of waste, using certain species of earthworms.
From 21st to 23rd October, the Hilton Vilamoura welcomed young people from the Association of Parents of Children with Decreased Mental Ability (AAPACDM) to experience mini-internships in specific departments of the resort such as the Kitchen, Service and Maintenance departments.
To complete the Global Week of Service 2014, on the 25th of October, employees of the Hilton Vilamoura developed a cleaning and reforestation plan in the Serra da Conceição in Tavira, in partnership with Floresta Unida. This is a nonprofit organization that develops and implements actions that enable the sustainable development of forests.
About the Algarve Association of Parents of Children Decreased Mental Ability
The AAPACDM is a nonprofit organization founded in April 1968. The association started its activity in January 1969 at the Municipal Market, with 17 children with special educational needs. The institution receives children, youth and adults with Mental Disabilities or Special Educational Needs, and who are at risk of social exclusion.
