As a frequent visitor to the Algarve 91 year old Ron from the East End of London was well aware of how desperate for funding the Portuguese fire service are, so decided on THIS visit he would do his bit!
He and his daughter rallied up some sponsors and on Sept 24th Ron 'flew' the 720 metre long zip line from Spain to Portugal, travelling at a speed of 70 kilometres per hour, to raise money for the Bombeiros!!!
It's no surprise that Ron took the cross-border zipline all in his stride having survived the blitz during the war, before then being sent to Singapore and India when he joined the RAF at age 18.
Ron was happily married to his beloved wife, Lil, for almost 70 years before she sadly passed away 3 years ago. He now lives alone in London, moving to a retirement apartment earlier this year.
Ron is an inspiration to us all, having an active social life and keeping fit by strutting his stuff at the ballroom dancing group he attends 3 or 4 times a week.
Having now fulfilled an ambition to ‘fly’ the zip line, Ron has raised a a whopping 751.88€ for the Bombeiros. What a legend!
