Friends and neighbours in Mato do Santo Espirito, Tavira, gathered together to raise funds for a very worthy cause, CAIC ‘ A Gaviota’. A childrens home in Tavira.
The idea was to have a free Quiz Night followed by a raffle to raise money to ensure that the children there had a good Christmas.
All gathered at Pastelaria Aquario and the battle began! 20 questions on Portugal followed by 20 General Knowledge and then 20 on Sport.
Before we started and during the intervals we were well entertained by Sergio Goncalves, a man with an incredible voice who sang in Portuguese and English and got everyone up and dancing!
In the end 2 teams had scored the same and so it went into extra time and a play off decided the winner. Well done to the ‘Pete and Dave’ Team.
The raffle consisted of 35 (Yes! Thirty five!) prizes, all donated, and raised an amazing €1020! A fantastic amount of money from a relatively small amount of people. Unbelievable generosity.
There were so many donations of prizes it is difficult to acknowledge everyone. Needless to say, they were all local businesses but special acknowledgement should go to Helena and Carlos of the Aquario and Rachael from Smartavillas. who both donated substantially to the evening. There were also many individual donations of money.
Personally, I am overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of the residents and friends of Mato do Santo Espirito.
The night was well received and, I’m sure will be repeated next year.
