Associaçao de Caridade Mãos de Ajuda (Helping Hands Charitable Association) is an independent charity, founded in September 2016. We opened a shop in November 2016 in Tavira, which will soon have been operating for five years.
The shop sells items donated by the public, including clothing, books and household items, with the aim of providing the people of Tavira and the local area with an affordable source for necessities, while using the proceeds to provide practical help to local associations caring for children, the elderly and others in need. These have included the Bombeiros in Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Vila Real de Santo António, A Gaivota children's home in Tavira and Fundaçao Irene Rolo in Tavira. See our Facebook page for more details.
We are always happy to accept donated items at the shop. Current opening hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
We also welcome new volunteers, willing to commit to three hours at least one morning each week, helping to sort and display items, including cleaning, ironing and possible heavy lifting. If interested please call at the shop and ask us for a form.
On Saturday 13th November, to celebrate our 5th Anniversary in the shop, every customer will get a slice of birthday cake, and there will be posters around the shop showing some of the items we have provided, thanks to the support of our customers.
Come along and see us on November 13th for cake, or any other time to browse the shop!
