‘Challenging but an amazing experience’ was the verdict of the majority of the 80 golfers who took part last Saturday (28th August) in the RCEPI Charity Golf tournament over the prestigious Monte Rei Golf and Country Club Course in the Eastern Algarve, near Santa Rosa.
After a continental breakfast, golfers were escorted to their respective starting holes and the siren signalled a shotgun start at 9:30am. Some four and a half hours later, some elated (as well as some chastened) golfers filtered back to the clubhouse in preparation for a BBQ lunch, drinks and to hear the results. In a tightly fought contest amongst some excellent ladies players Règine Petit triumphed with 38 points and was duly awarded the Ladies Plate by Robin Wilson, this year’s RCEPI President.
In the men’s competition some high scoring resulted in a win for Hassan Dahabiyeh with Jacques Bonneval a close second. Hassan was presented with the RCEPI ‘jug’ for his performance.
Monte Rei Golf and Country Club did its usual outstanding job of organising the tournament, food & beverage and in ensuring that guest golfers were treated to the kind of service that befits this high quality venue. Our thanks go to Golf Director David Shepherd and his outstanding team who made sure everyone enjoyed the special Monte Rei experience.
The proceeds of the day’s golf and raffle, which reached over €7,000, will go towards a number of different charity projects supported by RCEPI, including Estoi Casa do Povo, the sponsoring of one young person from an underprivileged background to study at University in Faro, and of course, our ongoing major effort to provide a mobile breast screening unit to the Algarve Oncology Association. A number of players, both male and female turned up in pink outfits in support of the cause.
