Tavira based Animal Charity ADOTA Associação dos Animais de Santa Luzia was founded in 2014 by two local Portuguese women, Alice Gil and Cristina Dentinho. The charity has the support of both Portuguese animal lovers and other nationalities in and around Tavira. They are passionate to ensure everyone can be included in their work, especially children and people with disabilities.
They have recently completed a food collection drive in conjunction with their local Continente supermarket, spread over a weekend they received terrific support from the shoppers and donations of not only pet food but other much needed items including cleaning supplies, toys bowls etc.
Chairman of the Charity Alice Gil exclaimed “We are delighted with the success of our latest campaign and have been absolutely overwhelmed by the wonderful generosity of the people of Tavira together with fantastic support from Continente .”
Along with the request for help for the abandoned animals of Tavira the Charity is currently in talks with Tavira Camara, urging them to provide an unused building owned by the Camara in which these unwanted Cats and Dogs can be housed and managed by ADOTA in conjunction with the Municipal Veterinarian, until they are rehomed.
The municipal kennel and several other animal protection associations in the area are already overcrowded … ADOTA is aiming to raise enough signatures on a petition to hopefully persuade the Camara to offer their support.
