The Atlantic Piano Bar in Vilamoura and Vila Sol Golf course were the venues for a grand fund-raising event on Sunday 20 March.
A total of 1,250 Euros was raised for charities supported by Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC). The day began with sixteen golfers playing in glorious sunshine, followed by an evening of quizzing at the Atlantic Bar.
The event was organised by bar owner Peter Thorn and his family. "Following a visit to one of the AIRC regular lunches at the Conrad hotel, I was very impressed with the work they are doing for local charities and I wanted to do something to help" said Peter. "We hold regular quizzes at the bar and I decided to dedicate one of these to the Rotary Club to raise funds for them. Since we also have our own Atlantic Golf Society I thought we should have a fun Texas Scramble golf competition with the Society members and Rotarians and combine the two. I'm delighted that we managed to raise 1,250 euros for the Rotary Club which I know will be put to good use."
"Peter, his family and staff pulled out all the stops for us" said AIRC President Uschi Kuhn. Not only did they organise the whole day; we were treated to chicken and chips in the evening, courtesy of Peter who also donated two tickets for a gala dinner at The Conrad on 31 April which raised 450 Euros, together with many other prizes including chocolate Easter bunnies! We are supporting a number of charities at present and this money will be used primarily for the benefit of under-privileged children."
