This weekend, two members of Algarve Croquet Club (ACC), will be undertaking a marathon 24-hour croquet session to show their appreciation for the fantastic work of the local Bombeiros.
The marathon 24-hour croquet session will take place at ACC's new home of Benamor Golf, near Tavira, and run from 10am Friday 24th September to 10am Saturday 25th September. ACC members Stephanie Shreeve and Dusan Turcer will be doing all the playing, save for the occasional quick break to eat and refuel with a plentiful supply of coffee!
Organiser and ACC Club Secretary Stephanie Shreeve said 'We want to raise as much money as we can to show our appreciation for the tremendous work the Bombeiros do all year round, and especially during the fierce fires we've recently experienced in the eastern Algarve.
Dusan said 'We'd love people to come along and play us this Friday or Saturday morning, day or night! It should be fun. We will provide the playing equipment. All we ask is that anyone joining us wears soft sole shoes to protect the lawn, and makes a financial donation of some kind. All monies raised go to the Bombeiros’.
Anyone wishing to play of the Friday or early Saturday is welcome to turn up on the day (or night!), no prior arrangement is required. Local firefighters are also expected to visit and show their support. Players and visitors can also make use of Benamor Golf's excellent dining facilities (normal opening hours apply).
ACC has created a dedicated donations page at https://donorbox.org/24-hours-croquet-marathon so even if you can't go along in person, you can still show your support for the Bombeiros with a financial donation.
Good luck to Stephanie and Dusan for this terrific initiative!
