Special Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 13th November 2022

SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE ON SUNDAY 13TH NOVEMBER 2022Christ The King Anglican Church Algarve will hold a special Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 13th November 2022 and everyone is invited.

It was King George V in 1919 who requested that the United Kingdom pause in silence for two minutes on the one-year anniversary of the peace treaty that ended WW1 to acknowledge the war’s fatalities.

Thereafter a period of silence and remembrance became the centrepiece of Armistice Day events that occurred annually until the outbreak of World War 11.

Today Remembrance Sunday commemorates all wars since WW1 as we remember and honour all those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom.

Every year The Royal British Legion calls upon the Nation and the Commonwealth to unite in Remembrance, and here on the Algarve, Church services have traditionally been held on the Sunday nearest to the 11th of November.

This year Remembrance Sunday falls on the 13th of November and Christ The King Anglican Church Algarve is inviting everyone to join them in honouring the Service Men and Women who have given their lives to keep generations of people throughout the world safe and protected.

The service will include the ceremony at The Cenotaph, there will be a 2-minute Silence, the last Post and Reveille.

“Remembrance Sunday is an important Service for us in Christ The King as many of our Congregation have close ties with the Armed Services” says Janet Martin, church Warden of Christ the King.

“But this year, this day has particular significance as the war in the Ukraine unfolds, almost on our doorstep, and we at Christ The King have welcomed and are supporting many refugees from this conflict. Please join us for this very simple and deeply moving service on Sunday at the beautiful Church in the Park, Jardim das Comunidades Almancil. Everyone is welcome. If you do not know where the Church is located or need further information please contact Ann  (+351) 932 841 943 she will be happy to help you.”

Medals and Honours may be worn.
