What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a fun sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Its a racket or paddle sport in which two players or four players hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles, over a 34-inch-high net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction.
The game was founded by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum on Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1965. Within days, Pritchard had come up with the name “pickle ball” — a reference to the thrown-together leftover non-starters in the “pickle boat” of crew races.
The tournament will be played at Vilamoura Tennis & Padel Academy starting around 8am each day.
Spectators are free. Player registration and more details are at the Pickleball Global website linked below.
