Specially commissioned and on display at Galeria Côrte-Real in Paderne, a new series of paintings by Jan Johnson feature individual, vintage tea cups.
Perfectly executed, the delicate design of each tea cup has been devised by Jan creating a feeling of nostalgia and refinement. Her distinctive style of painting has been much admired in the UK, France and Portugal and the new exhibition is well suited to the quaint surroundings of the gallery, located in an authentic ‘quinta’ in the Algarve countryside.
Qualified with an MA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University, Jan has had a varied career teaching in art colleges, preparing scenery for major film productions and becoming Head of Scenic Art at the BBC. Returning to her love for painting she is currently based at her London studio and is a member of the prestigious Chelsea Arts Club where her paintings have frequently been exhibited.
Galeria Côrte-Real is signposted from Paderne, Boliqueime and Ferreiras, and is open from Thursday to Sunday 11am until 5pm.
