There were angels in Almancil on Friday 27 March when local artist Uschi Kuhn held the first ever public exhibition of her paintings.
The theme of the paintings was angels and in addition to the paintings Uschi has written a book, again with an angel theme entitled ‘Yes, Life is about learning to dance in the Rain’.
Loosely based on personal experience, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, the book deals with love, loss and the strength to move on.
“I have always painted” said Uschi, “sometimes for my own pleasure and sometimes for therapy. Following the sudden death of my husband in 2013 I went through a period of depression. I decided to turn my thoughts and feelings into a book. My paintings were another way to express my feelings and each has a theme. At times, I was sad or angry but I am now reclaiming my life and moving forward. My hope is that others who have had similar experiences will be inspired by my book and realise that despite what life throws at us, it’s possible once more to ‘dance in the rain’ . I would beinterested to hear from anyone who has gone through a loss or period of sadness or depression and can be contacted through my blog at www.uschikuhn.com. It is important to feel that together we are strong.
More than 100 people attended the first night of the exhibition held at the Aderita Artistic Space in Almancil, including Loulè Vareadors João Martins, Hermes Alberto and Ana Machado from the Junta de Freguesia de Almancil, and António Gonçalves from the Camâra Municipal de Loulè.
