Algarve Nature Week starts this weekend

bonellieagleAlgarve Nature Week starts this Saturday and runs until April 19

The event brings together more than fifty tourism companies with special offers on 90 outdoor activities.

This is the brain child of the Algarve Tourism Board in its continuing effort to promote the Algarve region as more than a beach and golf destination.

The location for the exhibition which only runs this weekend is the new Parque Ribeirinho (Riverside Park) in Faro behind the theatre where stands, displays and artists will gather to entertain and inform.

For a full nine days the event will be offering walks, birdwatching, dolphin and whale watching, boat trips, cycle outings, horseback and donkey outings, and even airborne and underwater activities.

The whole thing is online at www.algarvenatureweek.pt in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

There also will be boats trips across the Ria Formosa where visitors can catch a rare glimpse of fishermen’s houses and the shellfish beds before they are auctioned off, ending decades of local family ownership.

The kayaking and boating around the canals and marshes will be fun as long as the raw sewage outlets are clearly marked.

This is the first such event and, weather permitting, a good time should be had by all.
