Finding personal tranquility in the stillness of a distant horizon, Martyn Perryman paints to capture an atmosphere of calm.
His oil on canvas paintings are featured alongside more than 30 other international artists at Galeria Côrte-Real on the outskirts of Paderne.
Martyn is a graduate of Wimbledon College of Art and currently works from a converted sail loft in St Ives. He is familiar with the moods of the Atlantic Ocean – as in the Algarve – the sea off the Cornish coast is rarely still.
“But look far off into the distance and it appears to be motionless,” says the artist. “This vision creates clarity of mind,” he claims. “You are freed from the clutter and pressure of urban life.”
Martyn’s paintings are frequently exhibited by the Royal Society of Marine Artists and can be seen in several galleries in the UK. Côrte-Real is his sole representative in Portugal. Many of the pictures in the gallery capture Algarvian scenes and the region’s peaceful atmosphere. Martyn’s philosophy is to create restful compositions of the sea and sky that generate a feeling of serenity.
The main gallery ‘Galeria Côrte-Real’ is signposted from Boliqueime, Ferreiras and Paderne. You can also visit Côrte- Real’s new Gallery located above the estate agents ‘Fine and Country,’ in the centre of Carvoeiro.
