The owner of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is increasing the number of flights to Faro next year, a decision based on the recognition that the Algarve is an increasingly popular destination with British holidaymakers.
Dart Group PLC, based in West Yorkshire, owns Jet2.com and Jet2holidays and announced its confidence in the Algarve market for 2017 and is to provide 900,000 seats to and from Faro next year, a 50% increase on this year’s figure.
The company also wants to enable its partner hotels to remain open all year round by extending the holiday season into the traditional off-peak months.
The 50% increase in capacity is from summertime Jet2.com flights, 60 of them each week to Faro over the summer months from its nine UK air bases at Belfast International, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle, and the 27 weekly flights during the winter period.
The Jet2holidays tour operator has decided to increase the number of hotels with which it will operate in partnership over the next year, ranging from 2 to 5 stars.
Dora Coelho, Executive Director of the Tourism Association of Algarve (ATA), the agency responsible for promoting this destination to foreign markets, says that this decision "is an unequivocal recognition of the potential that the Algarve has to affirm itself as a destination appealing throughout the year."
