Algarve councils up their spending before the 2016 year-end

silvescouncilThe Algarve’s municipalities are spending again with the BASE public contracts website* showing hundreds of thousands of euros worth of contracts registered in November.

For some mayors the hard times are over, in the Algarve at least, and there seems to be no shortage of money being spent in the final quarter of the financial year.

Albufeira council, in the first 18 days of November, has signed contracts for over €1 million for the supply of goods and services, continuing a spending spree that started in the summer. A substantial part of this spending is on long-overdue resurfacing for many of Albufeira’s roads and fixing up the grounds at many of the council areas's schools.

Tavira council has lodged spending of €800,000 on the BASE website and Loulé council has logged a €9.3 million spend so far in November. Much of this sum is for a three year electricity supply contract.

Other municipalities that feel the urge to splurge are S. Brás de Alportel (€403,000), Lagoa (€365,000), Silves (€278,000), Olhão (€167,000), Alcoutim (€124,000) and Monchique (€109,000).
