A Indian coule died early on Sunday afternoon after their car crashed on the IC1 near Santana da Serra in the Ourique district of Beja.
Two of the wounded, 53-year-old Mannarath Dominic and his wife Betsy, were transported to the Emergency Service at Castro Verde Health Center (Beja), but died soon after admission.
The other seriously wounded passenger, the couple's 16-year-old son Deve Dominic, was taken to Beja Hospital and later transported to the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.
According to local sources, the Indian family were going to visit their daughter in Vilamoura and were heaading to the Algarve from Lisbon where Mannarath Dominic worked as an attaché at the Indian Embassy.
Nine emergency vehicles attended the site of the accident, including those from the GNR, the National Institute for Medical Emergencies (INEM), and an Emergency Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) and local ambulances.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the GNR’s Beja Accident Investigation team. No other vehicle was thought to be involved.
