Summer tourism survey shows the Algarve shines

beachalbandeiraA major survey commissioned by Turismo do Algarve, ‘The profile of the tourist who visits the Algarve’ concludes that tourists visiting the Algarve are the region’s best ambassadors.

The University of Algarve study aimed to quantify not only the numbers but also the feelings and attitudes of visitors, what they liked and did not like and whether they would recommend the Algarve to friends.

The study was taken from 2,400 surveys of domestic, foreign, residential and traditional visitors in the summertime period only, with a wintertime study to be concluded later.

The western Algarve's is the preferred destination for 73% of tourists, followed by the central Algarve at 18%, and the quieter eastern Algarve with 9%.

The winter survey will be based on 1,600 sets of data, bringing the overall number of surveys to 4,000.

What summertime tourists want:

More and better infrastructure to support the beach (showers, toilet, plus cleaning)
Theme parks
Sports equipment
Nightlife
Outdoor activities
Activities on the beach

More cultural things to do
Better prices
More and better transport network
Better health conditions and hospitals
More hygiene and cleanliness in public spaces
Less pressure from other tourists

More access - car parks and caravan areas
More diverse shopping opportunities
Better urban planning and more green spaces
