Portimão's one-man crime wave has been arrested, to the relief of many locals whose properties and cars have been targeted by the 17-year-old teenager.
The youngster had been out and about, robbing people, burgling houses and stealing from cars in the Portimão area, causing deep concern to locals due to the sheer number of crimes committed in a short space of time.
The young man was detained on Monday by the Portimão police after its four month investigation into his activities has to be scaled up as he showed no sign of stopping despite being under suspicion after a previous arrest.
From the evidence the young man left strewn about in different properties, the PSP was able to "ascertain with some probability the possible author."
This prompted the Portimão public prosecutor's office to issue arrest warrant. When officers went to the young man’s home, they found objects used to carry out his crimes.
The 17-year-old tearaway already has been up before the court in Portimão where he was remanded and now sits in jail awaiting trial for burglary, theft and robbery. He also is charged with driving without a license - the least of his worries.
Over in Algoz, Silves, a couple, aged 32 and 34, were nabbed at dawn after they had tried to break into the bakers in the center of the village.
The suspects were picked up by Silves GNR which had sped to the scene after reports that two people were trying to break into the shop through its front door.
The couple had "several objects used to carry out thefts", including a crow-bar, screwdrivers and several pairs of pliers, according to the GNR.
