The Public Security Police will be helping the region's population safely through the coming holiday period by being out and about with ‘highly visible’ patrols where people gather over the holidays.
The Public Security Police also know where there is likely to be trouble and will "patrol those areas in order to prevent and control illicit behavior that might risk the personal safety of the population during Christmas and New Year's Eve."
The operation ‘Ever-present Police - Secure Holidays 2016' operation will take place between 08:00 on December 15th and midnight on January 2nd, 2017.
"Being aware that the coming festive season may lead to a higher occurrence of certain types of crimes, the PSP will be increasing police visibility and patrolling in areas where there are the most people, goods and vehicles so as to reduce the crime and road fatality rates," according to a PSP statement sent out today.
For Algarve property owners that are away over the Christmas and New Year holiday break, the PSP’s home surveillance programme will be in operation.
"In order to take advantage of this programme, interested parties should make a request in person at a police station in order to ensure that when they are away, police officers make checks on empty properties to see that they are safe, and to deter burglars."
