In a characteristically gloomy weather forecast, the Portuguese weather service has found it necessary to post warnings of rain, snow, high winds, troubled seas and rain.
After a period of sunny and mostly calm weather over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, despite hopes for a pleasant year ahead, the party is over and from today, "the scene will change."
Six districts of continental Portugal are now under a 'Yellow Notice' due to incoming strong wind, rain and something called an "agitated sea."
Beja, Faro and Coimbra are under the new warning due to the windy forecast, with gusts of 80 kilometres per hour expected, especially along the Algarve coastline.
The wind warning for those three districts is in effect from noon on Monday to 9.00pm.
The forecast also predicts the possibility thunderstorms in the central and Algarve regions from this afternoon and snowfall 1,200 metres, whcih will not affect Monhcique as the highest peak is just over 900 metres. The Serra da Estrela should get the snow, starting tomorrow monring.
Temperatures in Lisbon and Porto will range between 9 and 14 degrees Celsius, in Vila Real between 2 and 7, in Viseu between 3 and 9, in Bragança between -1 and 9, in Guarda between 1 and 7, in Coimbra between 9 and 13, in Santarém between 9 and 14, in Castelo Branco between 3 and 11, in Évora between 6 and 14, in Beja between 7 and 14 and across the Algarve, between 13 and 18 making ti the best place to be, despite the wind.
