Not the Tesla giga-factory but the car brand which, after a promise by founder Elon Musk, is now available for delivery to Portugal.
Online orders will be taken at the US factory for direct delivery, or to a Tesla agency opening in six months time.
Orders are being accepted as from today, Friday January 27th, with customers able to choose from one of the two models available - the Model S, a 4-door sedan or the Model X, an SUV.
After a waiting period between three and four months, the car will be delivered to Lisbon.
Jorge Milburn, the Tesla country manager for Portugal and Spain, said the Tesla guarantee will be valid in Portugal, whoever buys one of Tesla’s vehicles knows that there’s maintenance and problem-solving in Portugal, adding that
"Tesla technicians will be working here to solve any problem with the cars. That's very important."
Tesla will be running three superchargers in Portugal by the end of the second half of this year, enabling drivers to recharge within 30 minutes.
Stressing that Portugal has "a fantastic infrastructure" for electric mobility, Jorge Milburn explains that "from the coming weeks we will have our destination loading programme available in Portugal. This means that our partners, such as hotels, shopping centres, museums, golf courses, etc., can provide our customers with charging equipment when they are away from home."
The Tesla battery packs are capable of more than 600 km for the Model X, depending on spec., or 565 km in the SUV.
Milburn assured customers that "it does not take a Tesla charger to charge our cars, they can be charged with any normal electrical outlet, at home or at work, or use the network of chargers already available in Portugal. Our cars lead the market in terms of autonomy, we are talking about up to 632 kilometers with a full load, Which makes possible a trip from Lisbon to Oporto or from Lisbon to the Algarve, and Tesla will continue to strengthen the loading infrastructure to make these trips more comfortable and to connect Portugal to our European network.”
Tesla refuses to predict first year sales in Portugal but will give prices with the Model S starting at €76,300 and the Model X starting from €107,000 euros.
