An elderly smallholder has been murdered in Guia, Albufeira.
Police were called on Thursday morning after Álvaro Paderna's body was discovered by his grand-daughter's husband.
The octogenarian had been bound hand and foot and was found on his bed.
His relatives were concerned after Paderna did not go to the Thursday market to sell his fruit and vegetables so his grand-daughter investigated and made the gruesome discovery.
The police and an ambulance team soon were at the scene and it was clear that the 84-year-old not only was dead, but that he had been murdered.
The granddaughter and her husband, who live in an ajoining property, found that her grandfather's accommodation had been ransacked and that his van was still parked outside the property.
It is clear that this death involves foul play and a forensic team was called to amass evidence.
