Lagos council to have walkways and viewing platforms built at Ponte da Piedade

donaanaLagos council has launched an open bid for remedial work at Ponte da Piedade and to join Canaival with Dona Ana beach via a walkway.

The council launched the contest for the ‘Requalification of Ponta da Piedade - 1st Phase" which aims to connect Canavial beach to Ponta da Piedade.

The budget is €235,000, 65% of which comes from European Community funds under some long-forgotten budget heading. The remainder of the money will come from the local ratepayers, the Portuguese Environment Agency and the five-star Cascade Resort Hotel.

The intention is to install walkways and viewing platforms in the area with Phase 2 linking Ponta da Piedade to Dona Ana beach, already trashed by incongrous and wholly unnecessary redevelopment by the region's environmental body which sought to make the beach safer for tourists but instead managed to see it downgraded from the best beach in the world to an ugly 'also-ran.'
