The National Maritime Authority reports that a man has been rescued from the base of a cliff in the Aljezur area.
"The Port Captain and the head of the Maritime Police in Lagos coordinated a rescue operation for a bodyboarder who fell down the cliff at Praia da Pipa, Aljezur."
The rescue operation took place on March 10th after an alert was received by the Maritime Police at 5.00pm.
"An individual had fallen off the cliff, and two officers of the Maritime Police immediately were sent to the scene with an all-terrain vehicle and a team from Aljezur bombeiros."
After arriving at the site, a male in his mid-30s was found lying on the sand with multiple cuts.
Due to his poor state, and the instability of the cliff, the Civil Defence's Kamov helicopter was called up by the emergency ambulance service, INEM, and the man was stabilised and transported by air to Faro Hospital.
