Loulé’s annual Med Fest has won the award for the Best Medium Sized Festival in the Iberian Peninsula at the 2nd edition of the Iberian Festival Awards at a ceremony in Barcelona.
This award category is for festivals that receive an audience of between 1,500 and 10,000 people per day, with growth potential, and are considered creative festivals.
Med Fest also was nominated by the jury as a finalist in the categories of Best Touristic Promotion and Best Cultural Programme and Contribution to Sustainability.
The categories were voted on by the public with Med Fest also a finalist for Best Line-Up and Best Performance in Portugal.
For the council, “this award reflects the importance of the international appeal that the Med Fest has achieved and recognises the work carried out by Med Fest events office and the production technicians, media Partners and especially the public," said mayor, Vítor Aleixo.
The Iberian Festival Awards aim to reward and recognise those who contribute to the success of events at organisational, production, logistics, and branding levels.
The Historic Zone of Loulé will host the Med Fest 2017 on June 29 and 30, July 1 and 2 with 500 hours of music at 42 concerts on 6 stages over 4 nights.
The city center will be transformed into a giant Mediterranean bazaar with food, activities and a celebration of World Music with artists from Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America joining European musicians to fill the programme.
