The new Leroy Merlin store announced on May 23rd (Click here) is one of two megastores that will form part of the IKEA Mar Shopping commercial complex near Loulé. The occupant of the second large store has not been announced.
Engineering and construction group DST has been building the Mar Shopping area next to the IKEA store and is constructing the two new megastores on the same site, one of which will be the Leroy Merlin store.
The 'Leroy IKEA' site will be the largest Leroy Merlin in the region on just under a hectare of land. The project has a target completion date of October 2017.
The store will have two parking levels, the warehouse and sales area and the interior will have two mezzanines for technical and staff areas in a project that overall will cost around €6.8 million.
According to José Teixeira, chairman of the DST Group, this contract "confirms the confidence that great brands place in the work we do, even for work of high technical complexity," adding that "it is a source of pride for us to participate in an essential project for the local economy, in particular as regards job creation."
