A fire in a warehouse unit near the Algarve Shopping centre in Guia took hold last night but the fire service was hampered by a seriously congested EN125 road, standpipes with no water and the confusion that the firefighters had been called to a forest fire, not to a burning building.
Despite this, the Albufeira firefighters arrived in less than ten minutes but found the Neoparts warehouse fully ablaze with around 20 vehicles inside, along with tyres and car components.
The fire that started on Wednesday night, July 26th, at around 19:30 and was extinguished by 22:00. The warehouse structure has been left severely damaged, parts are in a state of collapse with one wall already down.
The standpipes in the Tavagueira business park had no water at all so fire trucks drivers went in search of ones that did, to be found a few kilometres away.
The firefighters made sure the blaze did not spread to other warehouses in the business park, despite the ferocity of the blaze making this likely.
