Live viewing of Lagoa's beaches now available online

carvoeirobeachThe beaches of Senhora da Rocha, Praia Nova, Carvoeiro and Ferragudo are now covered by live webcams - joining a national network.

The latest additions are a result of a partnership between Lagoa council and MEO, with the collaboration of public and private bodies.

The free-to-view service aims to promote Portuguese beaches by enabling them to be viewed by anyone, on a website that already is visited by millions of users.

To access, so to www.beachcam.meo.pt or, on mobile phones, download the Beachcam application on iTunes or Play Store.

Users can check out the Lagoa’s beaches as well as the state of the sea, in real time, 24 hours a day, all year round.

The new web cams also act as an aid to meteorological surveillance as the data is on the MeteoFontes site, a Lagoa council project based on two on-line meteorological stations located in Sítio das Fontes in Estômbar and in Carvoeiro.

These stations track thunderstorms, heavy rain, and extreme winds which normally move from sea to land and will help alert the authorities to poor incoming and extreme weather.
