'Algarve #1 for golf' campaign builds on 2013 success

tivoliThe Tourism Association of the Algarve has launched an online promotional campaign "Algarve! Europe's number 1 golf destination" in many strategic markets.
 
The promotional spend is taking the opportunity to build on the publicity surrounding the award granted to the Algarve of "Best Destination for European Golf in 2014," in November 2014. This accolade was awarded by IAGTO, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, the global trade organisation for the golf tourism industry.

The current campaign runs on golf websites to the 23rd of  February in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.

This campaign aims to promote the award-winning destination to those choosing where to have their golfing holiday this spring, a key period for the Algarve’s golf courses and associated resorts.

“It is hoped that the establishment of the Algarve as the best golf destination in Europe for 2014, and all the promotional effort by ATA following this award, will result in a growth in golf holidays in the region,” commented an ATA spokesman.

Confirming the excellent performance of golf tourism in the Algarve it was revealed today that over 1 million rounds were played here in 2013, a figure not seen since 2009.

In fact the final figure was 1,008,287 rounds, representing an increase of 1.14% over the previous year.
