Drugs, weapons and money have been seized during searches aimed at dismantling a trafficking network operating in Faro and Olhão.
On Monday, nine suspects - six men and three women, aged between 30 and 57 and related to each other - were detained by the Criminal Investigation team of the Faro GNR.
A source from the Faro Command said that "the operation, which originated in an investigation by the Faro section of the Faro Department of Investigation and Criminal Action for drug trafficking, comprised six house and car searches "heroin, cocaine and hashish was seized, as well as a compressed air and an alarm gun, as well as five vehicles, 17 mobile phones, three digital scales and various objects associated with the preparation and packaging of narcotics.
“During the GNR action, €9,464 was seized. The GNR had the support of personnel from the Public Security Police in Faro.”
The drugs were destined for sale in the Algarve - especially in Faro and Olhão – and had been purchased in the Greater Lisbon area from which the suspects regularly were supplied.
This is an organised group of traffickers and are considered by the authorities as one of the main suppliers of various drugs in the Faro area.
The GNR is continuing to investigate the network in order to determine the full extent of its activity.
