The Judiciary Police have arrested the person who shot a man in the face early on Tuesday morning, September 26th, in the Penha area of Faro.
According to the police, the detainee approached a man sitting in the front seat of a car and fired a shot through the window, "which hit him on the right cheek."
The assailant has been held on suspicion of attempted homicide as although the shot failed to kill the target, the police believe his intention clearly was to shoot to kill - only failing due to poor aim.
"The suspect, when firing the shot, aimed at the victim’s head but he mishandled the weapon.”
The victim was in the car with friends who witnessed the attempted assassination. He was taken to Faro hospital and later to Lisbon for facial reconstruction surgery.
The 24-year-old armed assailant will shortly be up before the judge and most likely will be held in prison until trial.
