British man dies in Quelfes air crash

INEM125A British man died on Thursday afternoon, October 5th, when his fixed wing ultralite crashed near the EN125 at Quelfes, Olhão.

A spokesman from the Civil Protection agency said the 70-year-old Briton crashed uncontrollably on a plot of land behind a restaurant from where a small air club operates.

The alert was given to the authorities at 17:11 and emergency services were soon at the scene but the pilot was declared dead at the scene.

Source of the Office of Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft and Rail Accidents said that its investigators will look at the details of the incident and issue a report as soon as possible.

On Tuesday October 3rd an American parachutist jumping from the Alvor aerodrome near Portimão was seriously injured after a fall.

Portimão bombeiros said the skydiver landed badly near the aerodrome and that he was unconscious with suspected brain damage.

The ambulance gave first aid before the man, a resident in Britain, was taken to Portimão hospital.

The 41-year-old was participating in a parachuting event that was taking place at the Municipal Aerodrome which involves dozens of skydivers from all over Europe.
