Portugal’s ‘second summer’ is drawing rapidly to a close as temperatures are to drop and rain is on its way, to the relief of firefighters and farmers up and down the country.
The IPMA weather service says the change at least will be gradual but, as of Wednesday, there will be a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures and rain is forecast from the north to the south.
The weather service forecasts rain on the national holiday, November 1st (here) which will increase in intensity until Saturday, 4th.
Early rain will be pretty feeble but don’t be fooled, more is to come as the week progresses.
The last day of fine weather, referred to by many as Portugal’s ‘second summer’ will conclude at the end of Tuesday which is the last day to get washing done for a good few days ahead.
Monday evening seems colder already but by Thursday the daytime temperature will struggle to hit 20°C – which, frankly, is quite shocking for many residents.
From Wednesday, November 1, rain will return due to a depression but the Algarve will not be hit right away, we will have to wait until the 2nd for our fair share while watching the clouds gather.
According to the site Meteofontes, Thursday will have "a lot of rain from the north to the south, with the possibility of thunderstorm in some places, accompanied by moderate to strong south wind."
This situation is expected to continue on Friday, November 3, with downpours and thunderstorms especially in the north and central regions, and also on Saturday with widespread showers throughout the country with the possibility of thunderstorms.
The forecast for Faro airport is: 1st November 60% chance of rain; 2nd 79%, 3rd 92%, 4th 59% and on Sunday, back down to 8%.
The heaviest rain will be on the 2nd November.
