Uber working with ReFood this Christmas to help feed the poor

ubertaxiUber and Re-food have teamed up to bring meals to more poor families this Christmas season.

The partnership will be active between 18 and 22 December in Lisbon, Oporto and Faro.

According to a Uber statement about the deal, "the company has defined a plan of solidarity initiatives to contribute to the mission of Refood - a non-profit association whose main mission is to take excess food from cafes, restaurants, food factories and other establishments and distribute it to needy families."

The same communication states that "drivers and partners who travel with Uber's application and, agree to join this initiative, will contribute their time to help the volunteers who collect and deliver the food. In addition, Uber will donate trips to help in the operation, ensuring that more meals are collected and distributed to Portuguese families."

This partnership also has an innovation, the creation of a virtual restaurant in the Uber Eats app, "It is a restaurant that will allow donations to Re-food.

The menu items are symbolic and serve only to represent the value of a donation, and the final monetary value will be transferred to Re-food.

“The online restaurant will be available until December 22 between 12.00 and 20.00 for those who want to contribute," reports the statement sent to the press by Uber.
