The GNR in Faro yesterday arrested two men on suspicion of nine violent street robberies of elderly people.
The vicious attacks were carried out in Faro, Olhão, Loulé and São Brás de Alportel council areas.
According to the GNR, "the suspects approached the elderly and through physical force and threatening them with replica guns, stole their wallets, ATM cards and mobile phones."
A two-month-long investigation, carried out by the Faro section of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, resulted in searches at homes and other premises in Faro and São Brás de Alportel. Three cars, three replica guns and eight mobile phones were seized.
The detainees, both in their 20s, already have criminal record for similar types of crimes and for carrying illegal weapons. Today the pair were presented in Faro court.
