Two former Secretaries of State in the José Sócrates government, have been accused of embezzlement.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the trial “of two Secretaries of State from the José Sócrates government, in office between 2009 and 2011,” but was coy about revealing their names, despite this being of public interest.
Their names are José Magalhães and José Conde Rodrigues, both of whom have been accused of using credit cards for their own personal spending rather than for expenses related to their jobs.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the two former Secretaries of State have to report regularly to their local police stations and face a claim for civil damages on behalf of the Portuguese State.
