The Algarve’s rubbish collection and recycling company, Algar, is buying more ecopoint recycling bins at a cost of €1,800 per unit.
This spend of €1.4 million will extend the Algarve network of ecopoints to 3,500.
"Algar, with this project, is improving the service provided. This initiative will reach places not yet covered, increasing the storage capacity of recyclable waste, accessibility to selective collection points and improving the environmental quality of people's lives," according to Telma Robim, executive director of Algar.
The placement of the new bins, "has been carried out in collaboration with local councils, in a phased way across the region, in places where there is the most recyclable rubbish,” said the company.
With the new bins, the ecopoint network in the Algarve will reach 3,500 containers, "which translates into the ratio of one ecoponto per 126 resident inhabitants."
"The Algarve has an increasingly floating population and at Algar we are responding to the needs of citizens in the service of selective collection. Algar has a computer system that allows staff to register and calculate the most best recycling sites, thus ensuring better management and the timely collection of the materials deposited,” explained Telma Robim.
