The work of recently-deceased Portuguese sculptor Alberto Carneiro is raising eyebrows in Porto even before it has been completed.
Presented as “three metaphors for trees”, the simplistic erections look, say locals, very much like penises, or "rather unpleasant suppositories".
They were commissioned for the city’s Largo de S. Domingos for a purported €38,080, and are in the hands of local company GO Porto.
According to reports, an image of the final project has been requested but has this far not been forthcoming.
