Faro Council is relaxing its purse strings to turn a car parking area into an up-to-date sports centre – at a cost of €270,000.
The municipality announced the contract for a sports facility that will be built in Conceição near Estoi.
The new 'Sports Complex of Conceição de Faro' will be built by Sociedade Martins Gago & Filhos, Lda which also will construct a building to the east of the centre for the showers and changing rooms.
The playing area's twin pitches can be adapted for soccer, handball, volleyball and basketball and all lighting will be low-consumption LED.
For the Municipality, the construction is a result of "old and fair" demands from locals who longed for their own sports centre, rather than having to use others’.
The Council commented that the new sports facility is part of its strategy to attract and keep youngsters in Faro’s rural parishes.
