The Judiciary Police, the Portuguese Air Force, the Coastal Control Unit of the GNR and the Maritime Police, have coordinated the interception of a boat off Tavira that was loaded with drugs from Morocco.
The haul of 60 bales of hashish weighed an impressive 1,800 kilogrammes.
During the operation, two men, aged 36 and 62, were arrested, as was the skipper, aged 48.
In addition to hashish, the import specialists were in possession of a semi-rigid speedboat with a 350hp motor that had brought the drugs from Morocco.
The two vessels now are at the Maritime Police area at the Vila Real de Santo António dock and the detainees will be up before a judge. All are unlikely to get bail while waiting for their trial.
