With no sign of the promised €300,000 emergency roadwork package ever starting on the EN125 eastern section and with a vague “sometime in 2019” date for the comprehensive overall upgrade that the western section already has seen completed, there will be a protest on June 10th on foot or bicycle so highlight the appalling state of much of the road between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António.
The demonstrators will demand the full and urgent upgrade of the eastern section of the EN125. The demonstration will start at 10:00am at the Vila Nova de Cacela roundabout and end, five kilometres distant, at the Retur junction.
This protest is being organised by the Citizens of EN125 Eastern Section whose organisers ask that people turn up on foot or bicycle and wear a black top to indicate a state of mourning, “due to the constant and shameful disrespect and oblivion to which we have been treated for more than a decade by successive governments."
The organisation expects "overwhelming support from an outraged population that feels neglected and disrespected and accounts for almost 5% of the national GDP. The eastern Algarve is the gateway for the vast majority of tourism that allows the economic sustainability of this region and much of the country," state the organisers.
